Footdee, Aberdeen

Footdee (pronounced 'Fittie') is a former fishing village on the north side of the mouth of the river Dee below Aberdeen. It developed from 1809 as a planned village by local architect John Smith for the city council with north and south squares, Middle Row (1837) and Pilot's Square (1855) being added later. The 'right to buy' was introduced in 1880. It is now a conservation area.
