A high level view of Lime Street – 1964
Taken during a student visit to St George's Hall.
Lime Street is remarkably free of traffic; although I no longer have a record of the date it would certainly have been a weekday.
A number of well known Liverpool landmarks are visible. Looming in the distance is the Anglican Cathedral, with immediately below it the tower of the Vines Hotel Link ; to its right is the bulk of Lewis's department store, and in front of that the Forum cinema, Liverpool's most luxurious when built.

David Lewis opened his first store in Liverpool in 1856. Other stores were opened around the country but finally the last store to trade under this name was the one in Liverpool. Lewis's department store closed its doors for the last time on 29th May 2010. It is reported that the building will undergo a 35 million pound refurbishment. For more information see Link
