Torrington Station
Torrington Station
This view from 1975 shows Torrington station in the period after it had closed to passengers in 1965 but before it closed to freight traffic in 1983. At the time this was one of several locations in the West Country where milk was loaded to wagons which were then conveyed to London; a locomotive can be seen just beyond the goods shed which was engaged in the extensive shunting operations necessary here. See SS4719 : Torrington Station taken from almost the same spot when the station was still a part of the passenger network. Since closure the main station building has been converted to use as a cafe.
