On a hill overlooking Kenmare Bay to the NW, are the overgrown remains of walls around the east and south sides of a court about 25m across, the other sides protected by cliffs above the estuary of the Kenmare River. Remnants of towers exist at the NE corner and from the middle of the south side. The thickness of the walls suggest a C13 date. The view appears to be of the pointed arched gateway entrance on the east side.
In 1601 it was the site of a landing of money and ammunition by a Spanish ship. Originally the seat of O'Moriarty, it was later held by Donal Cam O'Sullivan Bear who fled to Spain in 1601 after the defeat at Kinsale, and who died there in 1618.
