Morecambe Seafront
The perfect day for strolling in the early autumn sunshine. Morecambe was very much a product of the railway age, the town's name only being officialy adopted in 1889. It subsequently thrived as a seaside resort especially for visitors from the Yorkshire woollen towns. Like many smaller resorts it declined as the popularity of foreign holidays increased. It was propably at its lowest ebb in the 1990s when this photograph was taken but there have since been concerted efforts to revitalise the seafront area.
