Longrigg Residential Centre
Originally Sedbergh's isolation hospital, by the 1970's Long Rigg (it had a space in the name then, as it still does on the map) was a residential field studies centre for King George V grammar school in Southport, Merseyside, our "School Hostel". It was a great place to spend a week, walking round the Sedbergh area poking into all sorts of private property drawing up a land use map for 'O' level geography. It was within walking distance of a really excellent pool for skimming stones, too. Since early this century it has been owned and run by Milton Keynes Council as a residential outdoor education centre and extensively renovated. When they are not educating their youth by introducing them to real cows (as opposed to the concrete ones Milton Keynes is famed for) I understand the centre can be used as an independent hostel.
