TQ6674 : London Port Health Authority jetty

London Port Health Authority jetty
London Port Health Authority jetty
On the site of, and possibly the same as, the jetty for the isolation hospital which was here from 1883 to 1976. It was for those on shipping inbound to the Port of London found during on-board immigration medical checks to have certain infectious diseases. They were taken off on launches to this jetty, which directly connected to the hospital. The jetty seems to be a late sophistication, earlier there was just a landing causeway. One building of the hospital remains, now used by the Denton office of the authority dealing with shellfish and the River Thames.
