TQ6974 : Foreshore in front of Shornmead Fort

taken 9 years ago, 3 km from Church Street, Kent, Great Britain

Foreshore in front of Shornmead Fort
The foreground platform may be part of the 'embarkation hard to support D-day' that is reported to have been built, there are certainly traces here of further features that seem to have been demolished. However, it appears on a Kent County Council aerial view dated by Google Earth as 1/1/1940 (dubious) with some sort of very narrow jetty or boom extending out from it and a well-used track up to it. The latest Shornmead Light is in view, with some way beyond, the base of its predecessor. It beams white and red sectors upriver.
