Weir On The River Wansbeck, Morpeth
It is thought that a weir has existed in this spot since medieval times, and once served Oliver's Mill which stood on the northern bank of the river, close to All Saints Chapel (Morpeth Chantry). Opened in 1830 as a woollen mill, Oliver's Mill was converted to residential properties in the 1990s and can be seen on the other side of the river. In 2016, a scheme was undertaken by the Northumberland Rivers Trust to create a new fish pass on the weir with the intention of aiding the migration of salmon and trout.
