Some say that Victorian tourists who wanted to visit (say) the hill fort near Hunters Tor, but didn’t fancy the difficult walk from the road, were taken up to the ridge by donkey. There may even be photos of that happening. But what did this cave have to do with any donkeys?
The cave floor is a corridor, about 0.75m x 4m. There’s no sign of any fixings into the stone (holes for tie-rings, or gate). Donkeys are tough; so were Victorians. GPS says, distance 400m, climb 60m, gradient 17 degrees, 7 minutes. Link to view from outside:
