New buildings, Newcastle Helix
The rears of three new buildings on the large mixed use Newcastle Helix development site. Nearest the camera is The Biosphere, an office building for businesses in the technology and healthcare sectors. Next is the rear of the Frederick Douglass Centre, a teaching space for Newcastle University, and further away is the Urban Sciences Building which is also occupied by Newcastle University.
Newcastle's 'new' co-op was built on Newgate Street in 1932. Although 'art decor' in style, it gave more than a nod to Egypt where Howard Carter's discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb had just taken place. See http://www.timmonet.co.uk/html/newcastle_co-op.htm
