Cooper Gate House
Cooper Gate House
Now a private residence but built as a crossing-keeper's cottage where the Cambridge branch of the London & North-Western Railway crossed Hayley Lane (seen in the immediate foreground and then a busy local thoroughfare). The line (which ran to the right of the house) opened in 1863 and was in operation for just over a century, with the last passenger trains east of Bedford running in 1967. There are plans to reopen the route but it will follow a different course through Cambridgeshire.

For a winter view showing more detail of the house see John Sutton's TL2953 : Cooper Gate House.
