Track of old railway at Hayley Wood
This is the course of the Cambridge branch of the London & North-Western Railway which opened in 1863 and was in operation for just over a century, with the last passenger trains east of Bedford running in 1967. Since closure this part of the route has been reclaimed by nature and the strip of grassland forms part of the Hayley Wood nature reserve, providing an important habitat for wild flowers and butterflies.
