Sheepfold beside the Salter's Road
Sheepfold beside the Salter's Road
The Salter's Road, or rather track, runs from Alnham across the Cheviots into Scotland. This was the historic pack-horse route for carrying salt from the coast into the Scottish borders.
There is a sheepfold where it fords the Shank Burn, the sheepfold while still intact, is in the process of being buried in the bracken!
