Having sea kayaked on the St. Kilda coast during the day, this was a swiftly grabbed trek to the highest point of Hirta in the evening before staging a tactical retreat from approaching bad weather. The sky looks perfect here, but already the swell was building ahead of the wind and the anchorage would become uncomfortable overnight (we'd travelled to St. Kilda on the MV Cuma, not actually sea kayaked the crossing, although one of our group had done that in an earlier summer). Beyond the ugly radar installation, the view extends to Soaigh, the westernmost point of the group, and almost at the edge of the National Grid (Discworld fans will be able to imagine the sound of the rim waterfall carried towards us on the westerly breeze).
