Class 47640 'University of Strathclyde', in RES livery, heads into the station with a rake of Intercity branded coaches. 512 of these locomotives (locomotives, not trains) were built between 1962 and 1968 by Crewe Locomotive Works and Brush Falcon Works. There were several sub-classes after modification.
