Pwll Deri Youth Hostel
Pwll Deri opened as a Youth Hostel in 1957. It had been bought on behalf of the YHA by Pembrokeshire County Council, and established with aid from the National Parks Commission. I remember the warden telling me the house had been built by an architect in the 1930s, he died soon afterwards and over the next few years it was sold several times before becoming a youth hostel.
I stayed here in March 1987 when walking the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, it was probably one of my most memorable nights I have ever spent in a youth hostel. There was a full on storm blowing in. Apart from the warden I was the only person staying. It was like spending the night in a wind tunnel. It's in a wonderful location, until a storm blows in.
