The road down into the Cottonshope Valley
The road down into the Cottonshope Valley
Part of the MOD Otterburn Training Area LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) . The high moorlands of the ranges are crossed by a network of tarmac roads. Mostly closed to the public, but the range roads are open for about 60 days a year LinkExternal link . This particular road which links Coquetdale with Byrness in Redesdale is open for most of the time, but it includes some formidable hills, such as this one descending into the Cottonshope valley. The last stage of the Pennine Way runs along the ridge in the distance.
