SM8922 : The Landsker vale from Cuffern Mountain
taken 4 years ago, 3 km from Hayscastle, Pembrokeshire/Sir Benfro, Wales
The Landsker vale from Cuffern Mountain
North of the barren rhyolite ridge that stretches from Roch to Treffgarne, there is a vale underlain by more fertile Cambrian sedimentary rocks. The long straight hedgeline across the picture at the bottom of the slope is the parish boundary between Roch (this side) and Hayscastle. It is also the boundary between the Hundreds of Roose (Welsh Rhôs - this side) and Dewsland (Welsh Pebidiog). It is the traditional line of the Landsker (dividing English Pembrokeshire from Welsh Pembrokeshire), although the linguistic boundary was actually a few kilometres further south during the 19th and 20th centuries.
