Former Groombridge Station
The front view of TQ5337 : Former Groombridge Station as seen from the road bridge. See LinkExternal link for a view in 1985. The station originally opened in 1866 as part of a link from Tunbridge Wells to Eastbourne and survived the Beeching cuts which saw the Cuckoo Line close. However, underinvestment throughout the 1970s led to British Rail deciding to close it in 1982 with the last train running in 1985. The new housing extends over the former goods yard and what was once an island platform necessitating a slight realignment of the track around the houses.
