The National Eisteddfod of Wales is a celebration of Welsh culture held annualy and which moves around Wales to allow access for local communities. Iolo Morgannwg erected a stone circle in Carmarthen in 1819 ahead of a local eisteddfod and established a tradition of erecting a gorsedd circle of stones one year ahead of the National Eisteddfod. Abergavenny held the National Eisteddfod in 1913. This gorsedd was moved to Swan Meadows in 2001 from its original site at the Grove. The National Eisteddfod returned to Abergavenny in 2016.
