Pendragon, near Nateby, was a fortified tower house of modest size built in 1180 for Sir Hugh de Marville to protect the upper Eden Valley. It has historical associations with the Clifford family who were prominent in Westmorland and Craven for several centuries. Robert de Clifford enlarged it c.1309, before it was twice burnt by Scots raiders in 1341 and 1541, each time being rebuilt. Lady Anne Clifford restored it again around 1660 when she occupied the gatehouse until 1674. It was largely dismantled c.1685 and never rebuilt. The substantially built keep and moat remain in evidence.

The remains are listed grade I (list entry 1144890) and the site is a scheduled monument (1007156) as it "greatly reflects the tumultuous history of the Borders region and provides insight into the continued importance of fortified residences from the medieval period to the 17th century." The site is privately owned but is open to visitors without charge.
