At this point the track to Melynllyn has made over half of its height gain from the public road above Tal-y-Bont and has just rounded the north of Clogwynyreryr. It has now started a steady ascent of Clogwyn Maldy, on the northwest side of Cefn Tal-llyn-Eigiau with improving views northeast over Cerrig Cochion and northwest across Pant y Griafolen. The day after the passage of Storm Francis, it forms an excellent upward route, in contrast to the ankle-deep bog-flog of the paths on the other side of the Pant y Griafolen which we'd meet later in the day.
