Montpelier Station sign
Montpelier Station sign
Montpelier Station suffered bomb damage during an air raid on 16th March 1941 & required partial rebuilding post-war. This no doubt explains this untypical station name sign at the down-side entrance.
Montpelier railway station, Bristol

The station was opened on 1 October 1874 as Montpellier by the Great Western and Midland Railways as part of the Clifton Extension Railway. Goods services at Montpelier (as it was known by then) ended in 1965, and all staff were withdrawn in 1967. The line was largely reduced to single track in 1970, with the northern platform abandoned and all trains using the remaining platform. (Extract of the Wikipedia entry).
