Alberta crossing the A684 at Garsdale Head
There was some discussion among enthusiasts waiting for this charter train about what to call this locomotive. It is currently named Alberta but apparently it was originally called Galatea and some people insisted on using that name.
There was a tragic loss of life on a similar service near here only the previous week as a fireman stoking an engine climbing the 'long drag' in the opposite direction died on the footplate. Newspaper story: Link
The bridge is grade II listed (list entry 1384059) and was built in 1869-1875 along with the nearby Dandrymire Viaduct. The architect was JH Sanders, the engineer JS Crossley.
