SD7992 : Charter train crossing Dandrymire Viaduct
taken 5 years ago, near to Garsdale Head, Cumbria, England

Charter train crossing Dandrymire Viaduct
The viaduct, which is grade II listed (list entry 1384058), was built in 1869-1875. The architect was JH Sanders, the engineer JS Crossley. It is notorious for its construction having been forced by the boggy ground swallowing all the material used in attempts to construct an embankment.
The train seen here is a steam hauled charter service consisting of locomotive, tender and 12 coaches (brake van, five first class plus kitchen car, and five standard class). See SD7992 : Alberta crossing the A684 at Garsdale Head for a note on the locomotive hauling it.
