The Abbey Tavern
The Abbey Tavern
The Abbey Tavern is a former public house dating from the early nineteenth century, situated close to the remains of Furness Abbey. The current building is what remains of what was once a much larger hotel which served the Furness Railway (which had a station adjacent, for visitors to the abbey). The hotel had been rebuilt from the remains of the seventeenth-century house of Sir Thomas Preston. It was largely demolished in the early 1950s. The tavern is a Grade II listed building (LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) Historic England List Entry Number: 1025255)
