The ruins of Appletree Shield Primitive Methodist Chapel stands in an unusual position on a tongue of land at the junction of two shallow gorges (Mohope Burn and Wellhope Burn), each crossed by a footbridge. It is rectangular in shape and the ruin consolidated in 1999.

One of the cottages at Nether House can be seen above, the others hidden by trees.
