NS5965 : Oor Wullie's Big Bucket Trail - 'Oor Billy'
taken 6 years ago, near to Glasgow, Scotland

Designed by artist Robert Stevenson, “Oor Billy” is a tribute to Glasgow comedy legend Billy Connolly. The sculpture design is bright, colourful and fun – reflecting Billy’s personality. It depicts his life - from his early days working in the Glasgow shipyards, to his boots from the ‘70s and his dungarees from the ‘80s. His shirt is based on his appearance in ‘An audience with…’ from 1985, his purple beard and moustache from the early noughties and the purple tinted glasses he wears today.
Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket Trail ran for 11 weeks from 17th June 2019 – 30th August 2019. There were 200 Oor Wullies, mainly in the Scottish cities of Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. Scotland’s first ever national public art trail aimed to raise awareness and vital funds for Scotland’s children’s hospital charities.
There was also an Oor Wullie’s WEE Bucket Trail with over 300 wee Oor Wullie sculptures. These had been designed and created by wee yin’s and big yin’s at nurseries, schools and community groups.
Funds raised through the trail will support Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity, Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity, and the ARCHIE Foundation.
At the end of the Trail period, the individual art works were sold off at auctions in the five host cities.
