SO9039 : The M5 at Junction 8

taken 4 years ago, near to Strensham, Worcestershire, England

The M5 at Junction 8
The M5 at Junction 8
View to the south of the M5 motorway at Junction 8 from the bridge on Mill Lane. The slip road on the left approaches a large roundabout (an unusual motorway feature) which connects with the M50 motorway to Ross-on-Wye and south Wales. The traffic on the southbound carriageway is about to enter the county of Gloucestershire as the motorway descends to cross the flood meadow of the River Avon, only to briefly re-enter Worcestershire after crossing the river. The Cotswold Hills can be seen on the horizon.

The trees have grown since this was first photographed by David Stowell in pre-Geograph days in 2000 SO9039 : Clouds & Floods. During the early 1990s the road junction was remodelled, and the M5 widened to 3 lanes. When built in 1962 the M5 between Junctions 4 and 8 was only 2 lanes.
