Split in the river Lune below Ruskin’s View
The further (and now minor) branch is apparently the original one, but a flood at some time in the past created the newer channel to the west that still carries most of the flow. They come together a few hundred metres further downstream SD6178 : Confluence of the old and new channels of the River Lune. The river is still prone to regular flash floods.
River Lune
The River Lune rises in the North Pennines and flows generally westward to its mouth just west of Lancaster, a total length of 44 miles.
