NS5864 : Clyde Bridge renovation works
taken 4 years ago, near to Glasgow, Scotland
The 200 metre long bridge over the Clyde is also known as New Clyde Bridge, Central Station Bridge and the Caledonian Railway Bridge. It was built between 1899 and 1905 as Glasgow Central station expanded. It carries over 1300 trains each day, including inter-city and cross-country services from south of the border and local commuter services from Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, Ayrshire and Inverclyde.
The renovation works include blasting off old paint, inspecting and repairing the steel beneath and repainting the bridge in its current colour scheme. This entails building a complex network of scaffolding and completely encapsulating the bridge to protect the exposed metal from the elements and to prevent contamination of the Clyde. The project is due for completion by December 2020.
The bridge is Category A Listed in a group which includes Central Station Link .
