Plaque on the Corn Exchange
The Corn Exchange is the home of the town council, and they erected this plaque
Alford Corn Exchange
Erstwhile corn exchange, now run by a community organisation as something like a village hall, and the offices of the town council. See Link
Built in 1856 in the Italianate style, in 1857 Robert Adam Christopher Nisbet Hamilton donated the building to the Alford Corn Exchange Company Ltd under the condition that no religious or political discussion was ever to be allowed in the building. The building is topped with the Hamilton arms and motto.
The restrictions on use were lifted in 1902 by Lady Mary Hamilton Ogilby so this is now used as the town hall and as a venue for events.
