Crossing Char Beck
Someone has gone to considerable effort to build and maintain this footbridge approached by a boardwalk, and signposted by Hartlepool council as a public footpath. It's not shown as a right of way on recent maps, however, and there is some landowner signage a little further on (and aimed at people coming in the other direction) which would suggest some disagreement about where the rights of way actually go, although this may be because the Hartlepool signage is open to misinterpretation as indicating yet another route which clearly isn't a right of way. Since I was going southwards and had already walked the bit in apparent dispute before seeing the sign, it didn't cause any confusion, but I'm sure it helps both walkers and landowners if signage is clear and ageed upon by all parties - get it sorted out !
