A.1 Services bus at Irvine Cross – 1970
A.1 Services was a company owned by a number small bus operators who operated services in the Kilmarnock – Irvine – Ardrossan area under a common trading name. Individual operators owned between one and three of the original 21 'units' forming the company and shared the operation of the network on a rota basis to ensure that all operators obtained an equal share of the revenue.

Vehicle purchasing was left to the individual operators, with much of the fleet consisting of second-hand purchases; a small number of buses were bought new, in some cases operators combining to purchase a small batch of identical vehicles. The bus in the picture, AAG 312B, was bought new in 1964, by operator J Brown of Dreghorn, and was a one-off. It can be properly designated a unique vehicle, as it was the only Daimler Fleetline chassis to carry bodywork by Massey Bros of Wigan.

This is one of a series of views featuring buses in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
