NY8681 : Still waiting!
taken 4 years ago, near to Redesmouth, Northumberland, England
The station was always spelled Reedsmouth although the nearby settlement was Redesmouth which became a railway village under the North British Railway Co. from 1861. The original station situated about 90m north of this second station was closed in 1864 and there are no surving remains. The station served the 42 mile single-track railway following the River North Tyne from Border Counties Junction west of Hexham to Deadwater then over the hills to join the Scottish Waverley route at Riccarton Junction. The station was moved to serve the junction with the Wansbeck Railway. There were two platforms for the Border Counties line and a single platform serving the Wansbeck line which opened in 1865.
The station was closed to passengers in 1956 and completely closed in 1963 under British railways (North East Region).
