St John's Church, Wakefield Road, Bowling, Bradford
This church, built in 1842 at the expense of the Bowling Iron Company, has seen enormous changes. Behind it was the vast despoiled area of the Bowling Iron Works, and each side of Wakefield Road there were short streets of back-to-back houses. To the right of the church was the Public Baths and public library. The six lane highway replaces the old stone-setted two-lane road with its tram tracks. Not surprisingly, the interior framework is entirely of cast iron with slender clustered shafts and ribs to the vault. (information from imagesofengland).
