Sts Mary and Lawrence's Church - Stratford Tony, Wiltshire
This is the now redundant Church of Sts Mary and Lawrence in the Wiltshire village of Stratford Tony, also sometimes spelt as Toney. It has a number of features including a 13th century door, 14th century chancel and a 15th century tower. There are also 17th century choir stalls. In the parish of Bishopstone and Stratford Tony it was Grade I listed by the then English Heritage, now retitled Historic England, on 23rd March 1960 - listing ID (identification) 319552. It was passed into the care of the Redundant Churches Fund, since retitled the Churches Conservation Trust, in 1986. Stratford comes from the ford at the River Ebble where crossed the Roman road from Old Sarum to Blandford. The Tony element of the name comes from Ralph de Toni (Todeni?) William the Conqueror's standard bearer who was given the manor. Time photo taken not available. Sources: Bishopstone Village Website, British Listed Buildings.
