North-east shore of the Lough - Lough Gur, County Limerick
Looking out across the waters of Lough Gur/Loch Goir in County Limerick Gaelic Luimneach from the north-east shore, where are situated a car park and the visitor centre. This site, with its many features of archaeological interest, claims 6000 years of human history from Neolithic times onwards. While focussed on the past it is certainly very much in the present also. It is a base for staff and visitors and various activities, displays and led and self-guided walks in the area. The land and its surrounding area is of scenic as well as historical quality. Here you might feel an echo from past ages with a hint of what life was like for those long-vanished peoples. The sign in the photo reads 'WARNING DANGEROUS BATHING REMAIN WITHIN STAKED AREA'. Time photo taken not available.
