Let's have a gander
A greylag goose at Netherfield Lagoons fixes a beady eye on the photographer.

It seems likely that the phrase 'to have a gander' results from the way that geese extend their neck like this when having a look around. I think this is either feral or a domestic escape as it was happy to stay close to me which is not normal wild goose behaviour. There was a flock in the neighbourhood, but this one was solitary.
