St Mary, Bishophill Junior
St Mary, Bishophill Junior
A modest little church tucked away in a quiet corner south of the river. Amongst all the medieval churches of York, St Mary's has the oldest tower dating from the 11th century, but the builders reused a lot of old stones from the Roman and Anglian periods. Early recycling!
