taken 19 years ago, near to Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland

Dumbarton Rock from the air
Dumbarton Rock from the air
The River Leven in the foreground joins the River Clyde at this point. Dumbarton FC's new Strathclyde Homes Stadium can be seen by the rock as can the remaining red brick towers of the recently demolished Ballantines distillery.

Viewed from a Glasgow-bound Boeing 747. See also NS3974 : River Leven and River Clyde from the air

The Rock is a volcanic plug, and it has a long history as a fortified site. For further information, see the Geograph article "Dumbarton Rock and Castle": Link
