NJ2668 : The End of the Innes Canal

taken 4 years ago, 3 km from Lossiemouth, Moray, Scotland

The End of the Innes Canal
The End of the Innes Canal
The canal branch runs for a kilometre or so to the east, and then it just stops here in this pool. It is just as shown on the first edition of the six-inch Ordnance Survey map, surveyed in 1870, which shows the branch starting and ending abruptly, but its line is continued seawards by a line of air shafts, terminating in a flood gate below high water mark.
