This Grade II Listed building was originally built between 1806-07 for the Tynemouth Literary and Philosophical Society, and has an ashlar front, with a pediment over the central bays, a pedimented Tuscan doorcase, and a Venetian window above it. For many years the building was occupied by the Stag Line, and to this day a red stag adorns the gable end of the building.
