Ireland's largest stone circle - Grange, County Limerick
Ireland's largest stone circle - Grange, County Limerick
Here in the County Limerick Gaelic Luimneach, to the west of the shores of Lough Gur, stands the largest stone circle in Ireland. Thought to date from around 2000 BC, it comprises 113 stones and is 47 metres in diameter. It stands to the east of the R512 (R = Regional) road north from Bruff/An Bru R6236 just north of Holycross. Lough Gur is an area of many ancient sites and there is far more of interest than could be covered in just a day trip. A holiday in Ireland is well worthwhile. Time photo taken not available.
