Between the blocks of woodland on the left is the swathe cleared for the railway and the new edge of the northern, greater part of South Cubbington Wood. At centre is the severed triangle of oak woodland that was the southwest corner of the wood. The plans show that HS2 itself will run at some 10 metres below present ground level between retaining walls.* You might expect the sight and sound of trains to be reduced; Cubbington village is only some 700m away. When re-opened, the diverted footpath W130 will cross the line by an overbridge near here.

*Update, July 2021. The chap I spoke to on the Offchurch Greenway
SP3665 : HS2 enabling works, Welsh Road area, June 2021 (9) said that the line would be in a cutting rather than between retaining walls. That might explain the width of the swathe. Retaining walls were ruled out because of the logistical obstacles to delivering materials and concrete to the site, avoiding the village, and the possibility of disturbance and damage over an extended period.
