Abutment, Former Wallsend Viaduct, Wallsend Dene, Wallsend
Built in the early part of the 19th century, the timber Wallsend Viaduct carried the Killingworth Waggonway across Wallsend Dene on its journey from pits in the Killingworth area to the River Tyne. This brick and stone abutment on the north side of the dene, along with footings/foundations on either side of the Wallsend Burn immediately below, are all that remains of the viaduct.
