Church of St John of Beverley (Acomb)
Church of St John of Beverley (Acomb)
The Church of St John of Beverley, formerly known as the Church of St John Lee, was built by John Dobson in 1818 in a 14th century style. However, the present building mostly dates to 1886, when it was virtually rebuilt by W S Hicks although the spire was left untouched. There is documentary evidence for a church here from the 14th century and built into the church are some Roman stones, including an altar in the walls of the tower. Inside the church are some high quality 19th century fittings and furnishings including fine panelled roofs and carved screens. This is a Grade II* Listed Building protected by law.
