Holy Trinity Church, Wentworth
Grade II* Listed church built 1872-76, consecrated 1877. By J L Pearson for the 6th Earl Fitzwilliam at a cost around £25,000 in memory of his parents. The church has a possibility to seat over 500 people, far in excess of the village population at the time. The 200ft (61m) spire is visible for miles around. The church replaced the previous 12th century Holy Trinity Church that is now in the care of The Churches Conservation Trust. The bells were moved from the old church in 1893 that had been installed there 30 years earlier. The frames were repainted in 1970 and the ringing chamber refurbished and heating added in 1971. The clock was given by parishioners to commemorate the coming-of-age of William Charles de Meuron Fitzwilliam, Viscount Milton dating it to about 1893. The organ, described as some of his finest work, is by 'Farther Willis' of Liverpool and was installed in 1877 at a cost of £800; it retains most of the original actions.
