Open air services here marked the start of the Free Church of Scotland after The Great Disruption of 1843. LinkExternal link. Today there are a few summer services to recreate this former use of the area, but I suspect the services are predominantly now in the English language rather than Gaelic. There is a new plaque on the door of the building with the date 1843 and the words Free Church. Thousands could be accommodated within the grass amphitheatre.
